[Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Regulating centrifugal fans and pumps.-To prevent jerky delivery, back-pressure, and vibration, when the delivery of a centrifugal fan or pump is throttled, a device is arranged whereby the suction pipe is simultaneously throttled. Fig. 1 shows a slide e adapted to throttle the suction pipe b of a fan a when the delivery pipe c is throttled at d. The slide e is actuated by a piston h subjected on opposite sides to the pressures of fluid led by pipes k, i from opposite sides of the throttling-point d. Normally, an adjustable spring l keeps the slide e out of action. Figs. 2 and 3 show modified forms m, n of throttling-devices for the suction pipe, in which the weight of the parts tends to close the device on decrease of the volume sucked in. The throttling-devices may be arranged between the stages in multi-stage pumps.
