Check valves ; seats.-A pressure gauge for indicating the explosive pressures in the cylinders of gas-engines, fitted with a coiled-tube damping-device B, such as is described in Specification 13,850/08, [Class 106, Registering &c.], is provided with a non-return valve having a small leak so as further to damp the indications. The valve J covering the inlet I lifts on increase of pressure, allowing the gases to pass by way of the passages 4 to the gauge; it is made to fit loosely on its seat so as to allow a gradual back-flow on decrease of pressure. Or the leakage can be effected by fitting the valve seat with a series of pins P of steel or other material harder than the seat so that they gradually project from the surface as the seat wears.
