Abstract

[Addition to 21,207/06.] Ink ribbon mechanism. - Relates to ribbon mechanism of the kind described in the parent Specification, in which either of two ribbons may be caused to vibrate at the type strokes to cover the printing-point, and may also be caused to wind while the other ribbon remains idle. Between the spool gears 6, 7 at each side of the printing-point is a winding-gear 8 carried by a shaft which is rotated by bevel-gearing in the usual manner. The shaft is journaled in ears on a hanger 15, which is pivoted at its lower end on a stud 16. The hangers are rocked by a lever 17, Fig. 3, to the ends of which they are connected by links 18, 19. The lever 17 is mounted on a rock-shaft 20 operated by keys 21, 22, and the hangers are held in either position by a spring-pressed ball 24, which bears against a boss on the left-band hanger. To each hanger are secured spring metal arms 28, 29 terminating in fingers, which, as the banger rocks, are adapted to engage and lock one of the spool gears and to release the other. To enable the relative position of the winding-gears to be adjusted, the link 18 is made in two parts which are connected by screws and slots to permit of alteration of the length of the link.
