Abstract

9787. Lorenz, W. A. April 24. Ink-ribbon mechanism.-Relates to hand-operated means for reversing the feed of the ink-ribbon in typewriters. The feed-mechanism is actuated by a shaft 1 connected by bevel-gearing with two shafts 6, to which are secured pinions 8. The spools 10 are loosely mounted on the shafts 6, and rest upon the pinions 8. Each spool comprises a hub portion, to which the ribbon is secured, and which is provided with a disk 13 and a pinion 16. The upper disk 14 is separate and is held in place by a nut 15. The spool is beld on the shaft by a spring within the hub, which engages a reduced part of the shaft. Adjacent to each shaft 6 is pivoted a lever 18 carrying a double pinion 24, which is adapted to gear with the pinions 8, 16 and thus to connect each spool with its shaft 6. The levers 18 are connected by a link 26, which is operated by a handle 28 to reverse the feed. The levers 18 are held in and out of operative position by springs which engage notches in the levers.
