Abstract

9336. Jacobs, M. April 20. Locking nuts.-In a nut-lock of the type in which a roller lies in a wedge-shaped cavity in one part and engages the screw-threads of the other part, the roller 3, Figs. 1 and 2, is retained in the cavity 4 by the screw-threads 5 of the nut, which are continuous. The threads of the bolt project into the cavity 4 through slots between the threads of the nut, and are engaged by the roller 3, which is either grooved or roughened. The ends of the cavity 4 are closed by plugs 6. A hole 9 enables the roller to be pushed to the wider end of the recess when the nut is to be unscrewed, and may be used also as an oil-hole. Fig. 12 shows a modification in which the roller is replaced by a rocking bar 29, and the cavity 32 is formed in the bolt 30, the end of the cavity being closed by a notched disk which turns with friction on a pin driven into the end of the bolt. The. face of the bar 29 is grooved and rounded to engage the threads of the nut.
