Abstract

16,468. Wrisberg, C. G. Aug. 14. Locking nuts.-A nut 1 is provided with a recess 2 arranged to cut away part of the screw-thread of the central bolt hole as shown. Within this cavity is located a tapering locking-member 3, of the shape shown in Fig. 4, which to lock the nut is pressed by a spring 6 into engagement with the bolt threads with which the wedge-shaped edge 3 grips. To release the nut, or to hold the locking-member out of engagement during screwing up, a block 7 is held in the open end of the cavity and has a screwed hole containing a screw 8 with a spindle 9 projecting into a relatively large hole 10 with an enlarged opening 11 to ensure entrance of the spindle, which by rotation of the screw 8 pushes the block against the spring 6 when necessary. Two or more of such locking- devices may be applied to one nut.
