Abstract

8283. Kr³ger, E. A. April 6, 1908, [Convention date]. Repairing ; filaments. - Unbroken carbon filaments of blackened lamps are repaired by flashing them in a measured quantity of a pure hydrocarbon, after the bulbs have been opened, fitted with exhausting-tubes, heated to burn off the blackening, and exhausted. A lamp g and a measuring- vessel d may be exhausted through a cock a and a passage i while shut off by a three-way cock c from a hydrocarbon reservoir f ; the cock c is then turned to connect the reservoir f and the measuring-vessel d while a second lamp h is connected to the pump by turning the cock a. The vessel d, containing a definite quantity of hydrocarbon, is then connected to the lamp g by turning the cock c ; the filament is then flashed, and the lamp exhausted and sealed. The second lamp h is treated similarly. In a modification, the vessels d, e are filled before the lamps are exhausted.
