Abstract
8158. Nelson, W. H. April 5. Ornamenting; gilding and silvering.-In a known process for producing gold lines on bicycle frames and other articles, a strip of gold leaf is affixed by a water varnish such as isinglass solution, a thin line of dark varnish is applied, and the surplus leaf is removed with a wet wad; the line of dark varnish is then removed with a wad moistened with turpentine; and finally the line of gold is protected by clear varnish, which is either restricted to the gold line or else extends all over the article. The present invention consists in substituting clear varnish for the line of dark varnish. A saving of labour thus results, as this clear varnish does not have to be removed. Silver, aluminium, and other leaf can be applied in the same way.
