Joints for concentric pipes; hinge and swivelling joints.-In order to pass steam &c. into and from a rotating cylinder, a hollow stem is fixed to the cylinder end or trunnion and is provided with a spherical or other head rotating between two fixed separate external parts having means for passing steam in and out respectively. In the apparatus shown, the stem 2 is formed with a spherical head 3 having perforations 13 and rotating between fixed bearing- portions 4, 5, which may be pressed together by spring-pressed bolts. The bearing 4 is formed with a chamber 11, through which steam passes from an inlet pipe 6 to the interior of the head via perforations 13. A pipe 10 passes from the interior of the cylinder through its end or trunnion and through the head 3, to communicate with a pipe 7 fixed to the outer bearing 5. The pipe 10 may be connected with the head or with the bearing, according as it is to rotate or not.
