Abstract
5556. Braddock, E. I. May 27, 1908, [Convention date]. Circular-flow type.-A turbine of the impactwheel type comprises a number of wheels 7 with flanged rims 8, 9. The working spaces between the flanges are fitted with blades 10, 12 projecting alternately from, and at right-angles to. the flanges 8, 9 respectively, and having their ends 14, 15 bent into the central transverse plane of the wheel. Pockets 16, 17 and throats 18, 19 are thus formed, and constitute the path followed by the expanding steam in passing from the inlet pipe to the exhaust 35 on the other side of the wheel. The exhaust pipes 35 may discharge into a common exhaust 52. The turbine may be reversed by admitting steam at the exhaust side. To prevent oil from the bearings 40 from entering the exhaust, disks 42 are arranged on the shaft to throw the oil into annular chambers 44 in extensions 43 of the casing.
