Abstract

5542. Trott, T. March 8. Sewing-machines; presser-feet. - Inorder to use the presser foot of an ordinary sewing- machine to restrict the stuff vertically when darning, without pressing thereon, the foot is raised to such a distance above the plate that the stuff can be moved freely under it. The foot may be raised by adjusting the position of a screw f provided in the presser lifting-lever e. thus varying the lowest position of the presserfoot c, which is attached to the rod a by a screw b; or the foot may be made adjustable on the rod a by lengthening the slot which receives the screw b, and adjusting the screw in the slot; or a screw-threaded sleeve may be provided over the sleeve h<1>, the presser-rod being raised or lowered by turning the sleeve.
