Abstract

Column stills and rectifiers ; evaporators and condensers in structural combination. - Rectifying and distilling columns are provided with condensing- hoods F provided with a dish G at the top. The liquid from an upper plate flows into the dish by way of an overflow E and then flows over the surface of the hood, thus condensing a portion of the vapours in contact with the lower surface of the hood. The condensing action may be improved by cooling a regulated portion of the liquid in a coil O before it is discharged into the dish. The condensed liquid may be collected in gutters H, and is removed by pipes I provided with regulating valves J. Bubbling rings may be formed on both the outer and inner sides of the gutters H. The overflows E may be placed in other positions than that shown, the liquid being led therefrom to the dish by means of gutters. The hoods may be channelled and may be covered with substances which ensure the spreading of the liquid over the surface of the hood. The Specification, in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), comprises also the provision of condensing-hoods of smaller dimensions and their use in place of the bubbling hoods B, and also the addition of a collecting- gutter to the cooled heads of the ordinary brandy stills ; this subject-matter does not occur in the Specification as accepted.
