Abstract

3444. Zeiss, C., [Firm of]. June 18, 1908, [Convention date]. Lenses.-Relates to an improvement on the method described in the U.S.A Patent 4786/46 for producing, by the subsidence of glass in a mould, aplanatic refracting lens surfaces of a non-spherical character. Instead of the mould surface being the same as the spherical surface of the lens it is given a calculated spherical or non-spherical surface c. After subsidence the lens appears as shown in Fig. 2 with the required non - spherical surface at b<2>. The correct spherical surface d, Fig. 3, is given to the lens by grinding. Lenses in which there is no great difference between the thicknesses at the margin and vertex may be produced from a flat sheet of glass with the aid of a mould having multiple mould surfaces.
