Lenses.-In a collective lens, having a large relative aperture, which is spherically corrected by means of one deformed surface, the axial elements are so chosen that the sine condition is also fulfilled. Both surfaces of the lens may be convex, and the refractive index may be less than 1À618 and, in addition, if the angle of aperture 2 v of the deformed surface is smaller than or nearly equal to the angle 2 u of the spherical surface, the vertex radius r of the deformed surface is less than the radius R of the spherical surface, or if the angle 2 u is nearly equal to zero, the radius r is greater than the radius R. Constructional data are given for lenses having refractive indices 1À5, 1À618, and 1À75. Specification 8933/00 is referred to.
