Abstract
3384. Gresham, H. E. Feb. 11. Sand, distributing on wheel tracks.-In a sand-ejector steam-supply valve, comprising a disk valve a governing one or more ports d leading to the sand ejector or ejectors and a port c leading to a drip-pipe, an auxiliary steam-inlet valve m is provided. When the handle V is turned to admit steam to the sand-ejector, the valve m is automatically opened by a cam-surface j formed on the spindle of the disk valve or on the valve itself. When the disk valve is turned to close the ejector port and open the drip-pipe, the valve m closes. A blower valve O supplying steam to the blast pipe of the locomotive for inducing a draught through the boiler furnace may be fitted in the same casting with the sanding-valve. It communicates by the port r with a pipe running through the boiler to the blast pipe.
