Abstract

796. Welti, W. Jan. 12. Burners, applications of; vaporizing-apparatus.- In a spirit-heated hand iron, the liquid fuel stored in the handle 1 flows to the vaporizing-chamber 3, and thence to the space above the liquid in the handle before passing to the burner tube 13. The vaporizing-chamber is closed by a rotatable plug 4 having suitable transverse ducts 6, 7, 8, the first two of which communicate with the chamber 3 by an axial passage 5. The liquid fuel flows through a short tube 10 and the duct 6 into the chamber, and the vapour escapes through the open tube 4<1> and duct 7 into the tube 11 terminating in the space 1<1> above the liquid in the handle. The vapour is supplied from this space to the burner through the tube 12, the duct 8, and the valve 13<1>. By rotating the plug 4 the ducts can be shut off, but in order that the vapour passages 7, 8 shall be closed after the liquid duct 6, these passages are widened at their outer ends as shown in Fig. 3. A safety-valve is provided in the filling-plug 17 of the reservoir handle.
