Abstract

27,261. Soc. L. Veyron et Cie. May 2, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Looms for embroidered fabrics. Picking - motions ; weft needles.-A loom attachment for producing figured or embroidered patterns in one or more colours comprises a number of pivoted hooks c, Fig. 1, which are adapted to carry the embroidery threads through partial sheds formed by the loom jacquard, the embroidery threads being then secured at the edges of the partial sheds by threads carried by small reciprocating bobbins. When the embroidery attachment is required to operate, the action of the ground shuttle is suspended and the cord p, Fig. 3, is raised by the jacquard into the position shown, thus raising the rod 1 and turning the lever y and arms x arranged on either side of the loom. Rollers v carried by the lay then bear against the upper sides of the arms x and rock slotted levers s pivoted at z, thus pulling down rods q and bars g, which support a bar f carrying the hooks c and the small bobbins. During the rear stroke of the lay, a lever 6, Fig. 1, is turned by a fixed incline and causes a rod l to slide in the bar f, thus turning each hook c and causing it to pass under a number of warps o, Fig. 9, raised by the jacquard. During this motion, each hook c carries with it an embroidery thread t, Fig. 10, which is supplied from a reel at the back of the loom and passes through one of the healds. Each embroidery thread is secured by a thread carried by a small bobbin n, which is carried on the bar f and is reciprocated by a rack. As the lay moves forwards, the hooks c return, carrying the embroidery threads with them. When the embroidery attachment is required to cease working, a cord is lowered by the jacquard, thus bringing the piece 4, Fig. 3, into the path of a projection 5 on the lay. As the lay reaches the limit of its backward stroke, the piece 4 is caused to disengage the rod 1 from a retaining-pin 2, and the arm x then returns to its original position. The bar f is moved across the loom, in accordance with the requirements of the pattern, by a crank which has an adjustable throw, and is turned by a ratchet mechanism 15, Fig. 1, operated from the jacquard. Stop-motions.-The loom is provided with a weft stop-motion comprising a weft fork 29<a>, Fig. 14, adapted to engage a weft hammer 28, which is moved backwards by a projection 24 on a flexible strip 25 pivoted on the lay. When the shuttle is not in the shuttle box, the strip 25 yields so that the projection 24 does not move the weft hammer 28 ; but, when the shuttle enters the box, it turns a bell-crank lever 26 and raises the flexible strip 25 so that it bears against the lay and cannot yield to the pressure of the weft hammer 28.
