Abstract

26,152. Hommel, W., and Metals Extraction Corporation. Dec. 3. Agitating liquids by air jets.-Mixing-appuatus for use in solution processes consists of a substantially vertical conduit F, up which fluid carrying solid in suspension is impelled by a jet G at the bottom thereof, and an inclined feed-conduit E opening into the conduit F at or about the level of the gas-inlet. In the form shown, the conduits E, F open into a chamber E<1>. The vertical conduits F may discharge into domes H provided with inspection devices, and one or more sets of apparatus may be arranged in series. The apparatus is suitable for the extraction of zinc by sulphurous acid as described, for example, in Specification No. 23,901, A.D. 1907, [Abridgment Class Metals and alloys], and is a modification of the apparatus described in Specification No. 21,759. A.D. 1908, [Abridgment Class Metals and alloys]. In working this process, ore &c. and water are fed down the inclined conduit E, and the jet G is supplied with sulphurous acid gas or a concentrated solution of sulphurous acid. Excess of sulphurous acid may be drawn off from the dome and may be returned to work the jet of the next apparatus. Small inlet-conduits L for sulphurous acid in the conduits E prevent clogging.
