Abstract

25,854. Siemens & Halske Akt.-Ges. Dec. 11, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Working by unclassified operations.-Filaments of tungsten or the like, for electric lamps, are made by galvanically or chemically coating the powdered refractory metal with a ductile metal such as gold, silver, nickel, copper, or platinum, and then, without fusion, working it into filaments from which the ductile metal is subsequently expelled by passage of an electric current in a vacuum. The coated powder may be worked up by pressing or preferably by rolling and optionally beating, and may then be drawn. Or it may be stamped into a tube of ductile metal such as tantalum and drawn or rolled, as described in Specification No. 4814, A.D. 1907, the tube being subsequently removed chemically, mechanically, or by fusion. The Specification in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), comprises also the use of a mixture of refractory and ductile metal powder and the amalgamation of the coated powder by dipping it in mercuric chloride solution. This subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification as accepted.
