Trunks; portmanteaux and hand and like bags; holdalls; parcel-carriers.-Handles and corner-pieces for trunks, portmanteaux, and bags consist partly of leather and partly of india - rubber, metal strengthening - pieces being embodied if desired. The parts are secured together by rivets, cement, &c. In the curved handle shown in cross-section in Fig. 2, the piece of leather a is bent around a filling - piece b and encloses a flexible metal strengthening-strip f, which has at its ends loops engaging ordinary securing-rings provided at the ends of the handle. The piece d of india-rubber has tapered edges, as shown, and may be covered with leather or leather cloth. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, a strip f of metal is secured between a strip a' of leather and a piece d' of indiarubber. The corner-piece shown in Figs. 5 and 6 consists of three flat pieces a<2> of leather secured to a hollow pyramidal piece d<2> of india-rubber, which has a thickened apex i and ribs j. The improvements may be applied to the handles of hold-alls, parcel-straps, &c.
