Abstract
25,509. Bailey, W. S. J., and Bailey, A. V. Nov. 26. Bolts; nuts.-Means are provided for preventing the loosening of a nut or screw until after a permutation device has been set. The nut comprises a tapped sleeeve J and fixed washer H and a series of rings B ...F, which are mounted on the sleeve and are normally free to revolve thereon. A ring G freely revolves on the washer H. It is impossible to get a grip of the nut or screw to loosen it until after the insertion of a pin A to secure all the rings B .... F to the fixed washer, and this can only be done if all the rings can be correctly set to bring holes therein into line with one in the washer. As shown in Fig. 3, the loose rings may be provided with pawls M adapted to engage ratchets on the sleeve to enable the nut or screw to be tightened without the necessity of first setting the rings. In Fig. 11 the device is shown applied to the steering-luck of a bicycle. A sleeve G is mounted on the bolt between the nut and the clamp, and the pin A is mounted to slide on a guide F on the fixed part of the nut.
