Act, 1907.] Spindle apparatus. - The freely rotatable traveller-ring 8 is mounted in a number of rocking controller members or posts 5 mounted in a base 1 forming an unyielding external support. The grooves 6, 9 of the posts 5 loosely engage the flanges of the ring and base respectively, the ring-engaging grooves 6 being preferably formed of oil-impregnated wood. The pivotal portions 10 of the posts loosely fit the space 4 between the flange 2 and shoulder 3 of the base. The inner faces of the posts are engaged by tongues 14 on a spring band 12 frictionally held in the base or secured by clips 13, and to vary the pressure of the posts on the traveller ring, one (or less than the entire number) of the posts is adjustable by means of a spring-controlled screwed pin 19 preferably mounted in a sleeve 18 on the base. One of the tongues 14 may be replaced by a pair of oppositely-disposed tongues. A protecting- sleeve may be inserted within the band 12, having a flanged portion resting on the band and recesses for the reception of the posts 5. The space 4 in the base not occupied by the posts is filled with felt &c. to exclude lint and dust from the inside of the ring.
