Abstract

24,780. Stafford, E., and Luke, A. J. Nov. 18. Gas and like engines, lubricating in. A lubricating system for motor-vehicles, motor-boats, or mechanism designed to run in a bath of oil, comprises a pump D having an inlet E in the crank-casing &c. A, at a level below which it is desired the oil should not fall. An alternative form of inlet is shown in dotted lines at E<1>. Excess of oil is delivered by the pump through a pipe F to a transparent indicating- chamber H, from which it passes through a pipe I to the parts to be lubricated and returns to the crank casing. The outlet from the indicator H consists of a pipe O provided with perforations or slots so arranged that the full flow of oil will not pass until the oil has risen to a predetermined height in the chamber. Should the pump cease to operate, the oil in the chamber H gravitates to the bearings &c. at a reduced rate. The oil may be diverted to a storage tank L by means of a threeway couk G and branch K, the oil passing through a filter M. The oil in the storage tank L is forced to the pipe I throngh a pipe N by a hand-pump J.
