Abstract
24,356. Schauli, G. July 9. Primary batteries.-A depolarizer is produced by melting metallic manganese and maintaining it at about 2800-3000 F. for about five hours in a plumbago crucible. The product may be poured into a mould or the crucible may simply be allowed to cool, whereupon a black powder containing carbon, manganese, and oxygen, and a mass of highly carbonated manganese are obtained. The black powder is the depolarizer.
