Abstract
22,597. Farrar, W., and Young, S. Oct. 24. Supporting or mounting bearings.-In leathershaving and like machines in which the leather passes over a pressure roller which is mounted in a frame adapted to be rocked towards a rotary tool by means of a treadle, the pressure roller is mounted in spring-supported bearings so that it may adapt itself automatically throughout its length to varying thicknesses of the leather. In the form shown in front elevation in Fig. 2 and sectional plan in Fig. 3, the roller 3 is mounted in front of the table 2 on pins 4 which are carried by blocks 5 sliding in bearings 6 in the head stock 1 against the action of adjustable springs 7. The movement of the blocks may be limited by stops 9 or prevented by pins 12, which are advanced by screws 11 through the outer screws 8 so as to abut directly on the blocks at 5<1> when it is desired to keep the roller 3 rigid with regard to the working- tool. According to the Provisional Specification, the springs bear on pressure plates against which the adjusting-screws bear.
