Abstract
22,307. Baron, F. E., Baron, M., and Tingle, F. May 21,1909. Aerial machines with aerostats; aerostats.-Aerostats with rigid frames are provided with a longitudinal tubular compartment, which is tapered at each end, to give access to the interior and carry a propeller shaft. The frame is built up of a series of internal hoops A and external hoops B, braced by outer ribs C and by inner ribs D, which form the tapered tunnel T. The :inner and outer hoops are also stayed by radial rods c and stay wires. The tunnel may be concentrically or eccentrically placed ; and it may be formed by a series of braced aluminium disks with central holes. Below the tunnel there may be a gangway G with a platform g, upon which a man may walk to get access to any part of the tunnel. Fabric, such as silk netting, is stretched between the hoops A, B when removable quadrant-shaped gas containers H are employed ; and the tunnel is also covered with fabric. The frame may be covered with a gas envelope, either the whole length or made up of. one or more lengths divided by bulkheads. When separate gas containers H are used, they are connected by tubes h. Adapted to travel on land or water.- The vessel may have the lower portion encased in waterproof canvas to render it capable of floating on water, and it may be mounted on wheels.
