Abstract

22,128. Power, A. G. Oct. 19. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, preventing premature ignition in. In an engine in which water is sprayed in the cylinder to prevent premature ignition, air, liquid fuel, and water are delivered together, through a combining-nozzle, for mixing them intimately, which they enter in co-axial streams. The nozzle consists of a pipe B through which highly-compressed air is delivered from a pump, surrounded by two concentric casings, water being delivered to the inner one by the pipe D, and liquid fuel to the outer one A by the pipe C. The end of the outer casing is constricted to form the common nozzle E. The nozzle is described as fitted to a two-strokecycle and four-stroke-cycle engines, but may be applied to an engine, working on any cycle ; it may also be used with or without an igniter.
