Abstract
22,031. Thomsen, P. F. A. Oct. 17. Perambulators, children's mail-carts, and like vehicles.-In folding perambulators or mail-carts in which parts are collapsed or extended by moving the handle, the vehicle is locked in its extended position by knuckle-joint levers 3 which are automatically released when a bar 8 is moved out of engagement with the wheel supports. The handle 2 is pivoted to a rectangular iron frame 1 and is stayed by the knuckle-joint levers 3. On the sides of the frame 1 are pivoted two pieces 7, 8, connected at their upper ends by a uood-supporting piece 9, and carrying the seat 10 and closely-fitting side and back screens 11. The piece 7 has pins working in slots in rails 4 which are connected to the joints of the levers 3. The lower ends of the pieces 7, 8, when the carriage is open, enter holders in side rails 14 connected to wheel supports 15, 16 hinged to parts 17 on the frame 1. The front ends of the bars 14 may also be stayed by a pivoted support 18. To fold the carriage, the lower end of the part 8 is pulled backwards causing the rails 4 to bend the levers 3, after which the handle 2 can be turned forwards and the wheel supports folded inwards.
