Lighting and extinguishing gas.-Relates to gas lighting and extinguishing apparatus, particularly of the type described in Specification No. 12,619, A.D. 1907, in which a rocker such as F<2> contained in a gas chamber G is adapted, under the influence of increases of pressure, to cover and uncover alternately pipes leading to the pilot jet and burner. To prevent accidental movement, of the mechanism through slight fluctuations in pressure, a pivoted weight M rests in front of a tooth of the driving-wheel H. The weight may be supplemented by a spring. The weight has therefore to be raised at each action of the mechanism. The . action of the pilot valve is supplemented by a needle valve K carried by the operating-spindle G<2>, so that, as the chamber rises, the valve K is lifted off its seat and a sufficient supply of gas to the pilot ensured. Where the mechanism is arranged to be operated as the bell G falls, the valve is lifted through an arrangement of levers.
