Tyres, pneumatic.- The treads of tyres, or of metal plates 1 secured thereon, are formed with oblique ribs 4 and grooves 5, which are inclined towards the vehicle in the direction of travel at the parts of the tyres in contact with the road. In the form shown in Figs. 1, 3, and 4, the tread plates 1 have overlapping ends 3, which are inclined at the same angle as the grooves and ribs, and are formed with flanges 2 for retaining them on a pad surrounding the tyre, to which they may be riveted. When a rubber tyre which is formed with ribs and grooves in the same way becomes worn, it may be covered with the tread plates 1.
