Abstract
18,599. Field, W. T. Sept. 4. Centrifugal pumps.-A centrifugal impeller is arranged in a casing so that some of the fluid passes through it twice. As shown in Fig. 1, fluid from the suction pipe b is delivered tbrough passages g on one side of the impeller c into the casing a. Fluid under pressure from the casing a is at the same time thrown out through passages g<1> on the other side of the impeller, an injector effect being thus obtained. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which two suction pipes b, b<1> are provided. The pump may work in the ordinary way, or the valve il may be closed and the valve i opened, in which case it operates as described above. The passages g, g' in the impeller c may be formed as straight or curved channels or tubes. The casing has parallel sides and the impeller converging sides to prevent the jamming of stones.
