Dibrombehenic acid salts.-The calcium, magnesium, and strontium salts of dibrombehenic acid for use in medicine as substitutes for potassium bromide, are prepared by converting free dibrombehenic acid or its alkali salts into the salts required, for example by the action of alcoholic calcium chloride solution, freed from chloride by ammonia, on an alcoholic dibrombehenic acid solution; by double decomposition of the potassium salt with aqueous calcium chloride solution ; by the action of an aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide on molten dibrombehenic acid ; or by the action of magnesium chloride solution on the potassium salt. The acid itself is prepared by the action of bromine on erucic acid.
