Abstract

16,557. Crombie, W. A. E. Aug. 6. Cellulose.-In apparatus for producing fibres from solutions, a coagulating-trough is employed which is provided with a conical outlet specially constructed so as to minimize contact of the fibres with the bend of the outlet channel. The spinning-solution is supplied to the coagulating- trough A by a hinged pipe E, and the coagulating- solution by a pipe H. The trough A is provided with a perforated plate to minimize the production of eddies, and the sides of the trough merge into the conical outlet channel, or the outlet channel may project upwards into the trough. The spinning-liquid issuing from the nozzle G produces fibres, which pass through the pipe D arranged with its outlet at the upper side. In order to reduce the contact of the fibres with the bend of the outlet channel rounded ribs or grooves, arranged in a spiral or sloping manner, are provided. The fibres pass to circumferentiallygrooved rollers Q immersed in baths with which the fibres are to be treated. Instead of wheels, inclined plates over which liquid flows may be used, or the fibres may be allowed to dip into the liquid directly.
