Abstract

16,456. Reed, R. H. Aug. 4. Razors, safety. The reversible double-edged blade 19 is held in a trough-shaped holder 14, lugs 32, 33 entering grooves 26, 27, respectively, in the end wall 13, and the lugs 30, 31 entering grooves 22, 23, respectively, in the end wall 12. A spring 34, Fig. 1, is secured at the end 13, and the blade is inserted in the holder by directing the lugs 32, 33 into the grooves 26, 27 against the action of the spring 34, the greater depth of the grooves 26, 27 permitting endlong movement of the blade so that the lugs 30, 31 can enter the grooves 22, 23 and the spring then holds the blade in position against the walls of these grooves. Finger-lugs 41, 42 on the blade enter spaces in the end walls of the holder, and recesses or openings in the blade may be provided for the reception of the spring 34. The grooves in the end walls of the holder may be open-ended, in which case the lugs 30, 31, 32, 33 may be dispensed with. The bottoms of the grooves 26, 27 are lower than those of the grooves 22, 23 and at the end 13 of the holder the blade rests on two projections 37, 38 on the guards, Fig. 14, so that the guard 15 projects further from, and is further below the blade edge 17, than the guard 16 is from and below the edge 18. The face angle is the same for both edges, but the edge 17 gives a closer shave than the edge 18. A stem 52, carrying a head and transverse arms 57, is fixed in a tubular handle 50 and passes through a spring- controlled slidable sleeve 51, and the holder has a slot 59 which allows the passage of the arms 57 when the sleeve is pressed into the handle. When the handle is turned so that the arms lie across the slot 59 and the sleeve is released, the holder is clamped to the handle as shown, and notches 65, 66 may be provided to secure the holder in its extreme positions.
