Abstract

16,211. Mennesson, G. Aug. 2, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Feed-water, supplying and controlling.-Relates to intermittent feed-water devices for instantaneous generators, and consists in means for preventing the constant leaking in of a small quantity of feed-water due to the establishment of a constant pressure throughout the system. A pipe 1 leads from the feed tank 2 to the generator, and at its upper end is fixed a chamber composed of three cylindrical parts ; of these, the lowest 3, is the valve chamber and communicates with the middle chamber 4 containing a slide valve 7, which is fixed to the piston 6 in the chamber 5. This piston carries a stem 8 with a valve 9, which has a conical seat 12 and is prolonged upwards by a light tube 13 rising above the water-level 14. In the position shown, water passes through the orifices 10, 11 by the valve 9 to the generator. Any increase of pressure is transmitted to the chamber 3 and through the holes 15 to the piston 6. The whole movable system rises, closing first the orifices 10, 11 and then the valve 9. Any decrease in pressure causes the valve 9 to open, and so exposes the larger surface of the piston 6 to the steam, causing the system to reascend. Movements produced in this way do not open the orifices 10, 11, which are only opened by the pressure falling below that:which closed the obturator. Instead of the orifices 11 opening into the tank, they may be connected to a conduit of pressure water 16, in which case the extension 13 is unnecessary.
