Float valves; annular valves; tubular valves; actuating valves and cocks. - In a gravity-feed apparatus of the kind in which a receiver 1 mounted above the boiler contains a float 7 operating a valve 9 in the feed-pipe, the steam - pipe connexion 5 terminating in the boiler at the normal water level surrounds the water pipe connexion 4. In the apparatus shown, the valve 9 is an annular disk valve which is lifted and pressed against its seating ring 21 as the float rises to the top of the receiver. The valve is provided with auxiliary relief valves 10, which allow water to pass from the feed-pipe into the receiver before the main valve opens. A valve 12 at the top of the water pipe 4 prevents the steam from blowing through the receiver back into the boiler. In a modification, the valve 9 is a sliding tubular valve, and in another modification, it is an equilibrium valve. The Specification, in the original form, as published under the Act of 1901, describes a further modification in which the valve is operated by a rod placed in the receiver and expanding and contracting according as the receiver contains steam or water. This subject matter does not appear in the Complete Specification as accepted.
