Abstract

16,030. Campa, P. Aug. 17, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. [Patent of Addition to No. 5113, A.D. 1908.] Propelling. - Comprises improvements in the type of screw-propulsion apparatus described in Specification No. 5113, A.D. 1908. The face B, Fig. 1, of the motor-block therein described is provided with tubes or conduits C, D extending above the surface of the water or into the ship to any point at which air may freely enter the tubes. The object is to supply air to the after face of the motor-block and thus to maintain the pressure on it constant. If the motor-block is adapted to revolve, tubes C are fitted ; but if it is stationary, tubes D are preferred. In the case where the ship forms the motor-block, air is supplied to the stern by similar tubes. A nest of tubes E may be fitted forward of the propeller P. The motor-block may also be arranged with its face A enclosed by a casing F, Fig. 4, having a circular or annular discharge opening L. In a further modification, the motor-block is completely immersed in the interior of a rigid receptacle N, Fig. 6, and, when the rotating organ P is driven, the receptacle is subjected to an inner thrust, producing movement in the desired direction.
