Reinforced concrete; girders and beams; floors; walls; columns.-A reinforcement for concrete structures is formed by twisting together wire strands, some of which are bent laterally, singly, or in groups, to form shear members, and are then again bent and twisted together to form other tension members. Fig. 1 shows one form of truss, and Fig. 3 a modification. The cross-sectional area of metal in any vertical plane is constant. The tension and shear members may be parallel or inclined to each other. For continuous beams, the upper tension member is continuous over the supports.
