Abstract

15,765. Hillman, R. H. July 24. Door and gate closing apparatus.-The closing-spring of doors and gates is arranged so that it can be adjusted to give the exact force required to close the door, or be put out of action ; the catch on the gate-post is resilient and gives way when the gate is pressed against it, thus preventing pitting of the slanting surface of the catch. A bar 3 pivoted in the gate-post 1 passes through a revoluble collar 5 mounted in a bracket 4 on the gate 2. Surrounding the bar is a spring 7, one end of which bears against a stop 9 and the other against the end of a sliding cylinder 6. The stop 9 is held in place by a spring-controlled pin engaging depressions 14 in the arm 3, and the cylinder is slotted to permit it to move along the bar. The latch 15 is of usual construction, and is adapted to engage a spring-controlled pivoted catch 16.
