Abstract

13,719. Ingleby, J. C. B. June 29. Dynamos and motors, alternating-current; armatures.-The conductors of the squirrel-cage rotors of mduction motors, generators, and the like, having three or more strip conductors a, Figs. 4 and 5, arranged radially side by side in each slot, are spread apart on leaving the slots so as to produce a series of radial vanes or fan blades before being connected to the short-circuiting rings b, for the purpose of circulating air around the stator and rotor end windings. The end rings b are provided with saw-cuts or slits for receiving the conductor strips, which may be soldered or riveted therein. It is preferable to employ an odd number of conductor strips per slot, and to form the slot opening sufficiently wide to allow the last strip to be placed in the slot centrally between the others, the whole being secured by a wooden wedge l. The shortcircuiting rings are secured to lugs carried by the rotor end plates or plates or spiders e, Fig. 2, by means of screws entering holes g, or they may be fixed directly on the motor shaft by means of a light form of spider. The conductors may project through the short-circuiting rings, and auxiliary fan blades may be attached to the faces of the rings.
