Abstract

12,301. Wood, A. E. June 6. Belt - forks, operating. - To drive carpet looms at a reduced speed while the pile - wire is being inserted, the main driving-shaft b is provided with two fast pulleys c, d and two loose pulleys driven from pulleys of different diameters on an overhead shaft. The strap - forks f<1>, g<1> are carried by slides f, loosely mounted on a sliding bar e, which is supported by bearings e<1> and reciprocated by lever mechanism m<2> and a cam on a driven shaft. The slides are connected by toggle - levers so that one of the slides is always kept in contact with a fixed bracket k. By means of collars h, i on the bar e, the slides are caused to move with this bar, and, in the position of the toggle-levers shown in Fig. 1, the slides are always in such positions that one driving-strap is on a loose pulley and the other on a fast pulley. As the slide is reciprocated, the driving-straps are moved to and fro from one fast pulley and the loose pulley of the other pair, to the other two pulleys, thus varying the speed of the machine. When the usual stop-lever o is moved to the left, a lever n is rocked downwards, and, by means of a link j<1>, the ends of the extended levers j are drawn towards one another, and the slides, which are also drawn nearer to one another, move the driving-straps on to the loose pulleys.
