UNITED STATEQSIi'QENT OFFICE;
ROBERT ERNST FISCHER AR'D BIAX VFESCHER, OF ELBERFELD, GERMANY AUTOMATIC DISCONNEC'I 3G DEVICE FOR PAPER-TREATING MACHINES.
Application 212d March 14.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ROBERT Enxs'r Fisrnizu and MA): 'Wnsem-zn, engineers. itizens of the German Empire. and. residents of L5 fiandstra se. lilhert'eld. (lei-many, i have invented new and useful Automatic lliseonnerting Deviee for Paper-Treating Machines, of whirh the following a speci- 5 tiratiou. i
This invention relatesto a device for i autoniatirally throwing out of gear ina ehines having rotatahle roll for treating: paper as for example hag making machines, envelop iuzu-hines and printing mavhines in ase of any :u'rident arising.
This inn ntion is illustrated in the flt't'Olllpartying drawing in whirh- Figure 1 shows the (lei ire. in the working position of the machine while Fig. 2 shows i the. same in disengaged position. Fig. I, is l a detail view of a part of the same.
1/, I, u. I). a". if, and u". b are several pairs of rolls provided with the instruments for working the paper. The guiding of the paper from the one pair of rolls a. b to the next pair of rolls is etl'eeted by the guides e, f, e, 7", e, The upper guides c. c, e", are stationary while the lower guides f, j are rotatable ahout an axis I/. g and are held hy springs It. 71, If in the position .-l!()\\'t| in Fig. 1.
If any aerident should happan on the passage of the paper from one pair of these, rolls the paper is. piled or heaped up behind these roll as shown on the left hand Side of Fig. and this piled up paper presses down the lower guides into the position shown by in Fig. l. l
()n the axle i of the roll 7) is fixed a; ram tlisli j on whirh runs' a roller 1 set-tired to the lover I mounted at Z: 0 that thisl lover I during the operation of the inarhine swings up and down nlmul the pivot 71, The lever Z moves in a slot in the rod 7) which is pivoted at n to the donnle armed lever o whieh rod is l)l't' 'Hl h llll2lll of a spring 1 against a stop pin of a rod voune ting the levers and x set-tired tn the guides f and f. it now h son :u-eillent as above indirated one of the guides ibrought illtu the position shown by f in Fig. 2 when the in 1' moves hat-lward and the rod 1 follows the :H'tioll of the spring 1/, :1 lug on the leu-r enters the lut in thc Fu l 7/. Thi slut whirl! i-; represented h) E the dotted lint-s u and w is of sm-h length l Specification of Letters Patent.
; like, in sin-h Patented July 26, 1910.
1908. Serial HO. 421.153.
that on the lifting of the lever Z by a cam on the earn disk j the rod is carried with it, whereby the lever 0 swings about the pivot 1' and a pin 12 atta hed to the same is thereby withdrawn fr m a notch in the disconnecting rm. This rod which is held in position by the pin it is now moved under the action of a spring a Weight or the manner that: the machine is thrown out f gear by the belt-guide 3 throwing the driving from the fixed to the lLKbt pulley. When the piled up paper is removed the several lower guides return to the position shown in Fig. 1 under the :10-
Z tion of tlu-ir respeetive springs, the rod p liemg pressml haul; by the pin 1*. If the ma chine is again brought into gear, the diseonneeting rod 3 being brought back into its toruu-r POFIUUH, the pm it again enters .the notch in the rod I under the action of the spring 2. whereby die rod ,0 is again drawn downward and the deyiee again brought into operative position.
Thus in mmof :u-eideut this deviee effects the lisehgngrlllelit ot' the inarhine which eanuot again he brought into gear until the paper eausing the accident is withdrawn from the machine.
hat we claim a our invention and desire to sernre h}: l mited States Letters Patent is:-
1. in a nnw'hine f the eharaeter deserihed, the eonihiuat ion with the rotatahle rolls, of a pair of gHhh-s for guiding the paper between the rolls. one of said guides being yieldingly mounted. nu-.-hanism for throwing the machine out of gear. means controlling said nurehanism, a swinging iueinher actuated by one of the r lls and adapted to operate the eontrolhng means. a stop normally holding paper aeenniulates on the yielding guide whereby to etl'evt the artuation of the ma- "hine stopping met-hauisiu. 2. lit a. nizu-hine of the eharnrlel' described, the roiuliioation with a pair of rotatable rolls, of a air of guides for direeting the paper helm-en the rolls, said guides eon)- prisiug a llXt l and a movable iuemlier, said nun'alile na-iulu-r living pivotallv mounted and :ulaplml to in depres ed h) the :u-eumulnliull and pressure of the paper hetween said guidw, a lever adapted to have swingti 2 i r 1 i'ng movement through the rotation of one of said rolls, and a means adapted to be engaged by said swinging lever and ettect to throw the machine out of gear when the paper accumulates between said guides.
7 3; In a machine of the character described, the combination with a plurality of pairs of rolls, of a pair of guides for supporting and directing the paper between adjacent pairs of said rolls. one of each pair of guides being yieldingly mounted and adapted to be depressed by the accumulation and pressure of the paper between said guides, levers depending from said movable guides and having a common connection, a pivotally mounted lever adapted to have swinging movement through the rotation of one of said rolls, and a means adapted to he engaged by said swing ing lever to ettect the throwing of the machine out of gear when the paper accumulates between any one of the. pairs of guides, said throwing out means being held inactive during the running of the machine through the common connecting means of said levers. In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses ROBERT ERNST FISCHER.
