Abstract

12,296. Evershed & Vignoles, and Vignoles, E. B. June. 6. Resistances.-A low resistance, particularly applicable as a shunt for an indicating, recording, or integrating ammeter, consists of one or more resistance strips S clamped between brass, copper, or other metal plates U, L provided with webs for radiating the heat generated in the strip. One plate may be soldered or clamped to each end of the strip S so that the plates form the terminals, mica or other insulation I which has a high thermal conductivity being placed between the strip S and the webbed portions of the plates U, L. Alternatively, the terminals may be insulated from the clamping- plates U, L. A gap is formed in the centre of the shunt to improve the ventilation when used horizontally, and portions p of the strip S may be cut and turned up for attachment to the potential leads. The webbed plates U, L are clamped together by screws passing through insulating-bushes in one plate U. Specification No. 7711, A.D. 1907, is referred to.
