Abstract

11,416. Sieben, H., and Gifford, F. W. May 26. Spray-producers; nozzles.- Spraying- nozzles of the class described in Specification No. 16,888, A.D. 1907, in which the body of the nozzle contains a chemical cartridge, are provided with a sealed cartridge which is automatically opened by the passing water, the construction being such that the water flows partly through the cartridge. A special form of packing is provided for the joint of the removable cover. Fig. 1 shows a sectional view of the apparatus. The cylindrical body 1 contains the cartridge 23 the end of which is sealed by a non-absorbent material b. This membrane b is fractured by the entering liquid. From a chamber 24 at the base of the cartridge passes a tube 25, provided at the top end with a sliding cap 30 which is automatically opened by the flow of water, as shown in Fig. 5. The cap member 9 of the nozzle is hinged to the body 1 and secured by the cam lever 20, the joint between the two parts being made by means of the packing 5. The enlarged portion 10 has the mixing-chamber 27 formed in it. After leaving the pipe 2, part of the water flows through the cartridge and part around the cartridge through the openings 28 into the mixing-chamber. One or more partitions separate the different chemicals contained in the cartridge.
