Abstract

Calliper gauges; internal gauges.- Instruments of the calliper type are arranged to measure the distance between points and surfaces not readily accessible, such as the thickness of the material of flanged pipes. Fig. 1 shows a form adapted for ascertaining the thickness of the rim at the bottom of the groove of a rope pulley. The frame 1 carries the fixed measuring- point 2, and an aperture through which the graduated rod 4 carrying the movable measuring-point 7 can slide; both frame and rod are provided with handles, and the point 7 may be detached, Fig. 3. The frame is bent as shown to avoid projecting parts of the body to be gauged, and is provided with a pivoted adjustable arm 9 with three bearing-points 10, 10', which serves as a guide enabling measurements to be repeated at the same point with respect to the side of the body.
