Abstract

8617. Chambers, J., and Chambers, E. April 18. Loom temples.- A two-roller temple comprises a long cylindrical spiked roller d, Fig. 3, parallel to the reed, and a short conical spiked roller b, which is nearer the reed and is at an angle to the roller d. The adjacent sides and the tops of the rollers b, d are preferably parallel to one another, and the roller b may be fixed oradjustable. In the latter case, the pointed end k of the roller pivot i may rotate in a depression in an adjustable plate l,or the point may be on the plate l and the depression in the end of the pivot i. In a modified construction, the roller b rotates on an axle m, Fig. 7, which has a flat portion adapted to be secured to the underside of the temple box by a set-screw passing through a slot n if the roller is to be adjustable, or through a hole if the roller is to be fixed. The roller b may be made in two parts 1, 2, Fig. 10, the part 1 being secured to a bush 3 on which the part 2 rotates, and the parts 1, 2 being separated by a thin flange 4. The roller d rotates in a parallel bearing e and a centre bearing f, and it may be made of wood, iron, or brass, or as described in Specification No. 3154, A.D. 1906. The fabric passes over the rollers b, d and under the usual section bar and cap ; or the section bar may be dispensed with.
