Abstract

8461. Pendock, C. R., and Tarr, H. C. H. April 16. Louvered apparatus.-A grated appliance, adapted to form the inlet to or outlet from an air duct of a system of ventilation, consists of a pair of inclined plates 2, opening at the bottom to the duct 1 and provided with inclined curved partitions 3 forming a series of air passages 4, in which the cross-sectional area diminishes continually from the outside towards the duct. By this construction, no inoperative spaces are left between the air ducts, and each tributary current is caused to merge gradually with the main current coursing along the duct. In a modification, the larger openings of the air passages are towards the duct. The invention may be applied to a roof-ridge ventilator, or a drying-chamber furnished with a hot-air heater &c. Specification No. 2085, A.D. 1869, [Abridgment Class Drying], is referred to.
