Screws, screwing into place.-A combined machine wrench and clamp for use in forming rail joints has two clamping-arms 14, 15, pivoted together at 10, and operated by a wedge 22 on a pivoted lever 21, and a frame 19 adjustably pivoted to the arm 15 and provided with a socket wrench head 42, which is operated by a crank-handle 31 through sprocketwheels 29, 34, 35, 38 and chains 39, 40. The jaw 8 of the arm 14 is adapted to engage the head of a bolt 7, and the jaw 9 of the arm 15 is bifurcated and may be provided with setscrews 9<a> for engaging with fish-plates. The arm 15 is adjustably secured by screws 16 to a depending arm 17, pivotally connected at 18 with the frame 19. The operating-lever 21 is pivoted by a bolt 20 to the arm 15. The arm 14 is provided with an opening sufficiently large to allow its full movement without binding on the bolt 20. The wrench head 42 is provided with a spindle 41 which fits the opening of a hub 37, on which the sprocket-wheel 38 is mounted. This opening increases in size towards the opposite extremity of the spindle to allow oscillating movement of the wrench head. The head and spindle are secured by a washer 43 and screw 44.
