Gas and like engines.-In an electric ignition system for multi - cylinder internal - combustion engines, a trembler is used at starting, but is cut out during normal running. Fig. 2 shows a circuit containing both a battery and a magneto for supplying the igniting-current, but a battery only may be used, in which case the primary of the induction coil is connected to earth through a simple switch. A battery 1 supplies in either case the current at starting. The primary of the induction coil 2 is connected at one end through a changeover switch 14 to earth, and at the other end to the battery 1, the second pole of the latter being in connexion with the trembler 3 and one terminal of an engine-driven interrupter 6 ; a condenser 7 is placed across the terminals of the interrupter The secondary of the induction coil is connected through a distributing-switsh 8 to the plugs 9 of the engine, circuit being completed through the engine framing. At starting, the distributing-switch is so disposed that the spark-plug of that cylinder containing an explosive mixture under pressure will be in circuit with the induction coil secondary. The interrupter is open and the switch closed. A spring-button 5 is depressed and closes the circuit from the battery through the trembler, engine frame, and primary winding, giving a series of sparks at the plug with the engine running normally, the spring button is released and single sparks are effected by the interupter. The latter comprises a cam-plate 20, Fig. 3, on which bears a boss 19 on a spring-pressed lever 15, one of the contacts 17 being carried by this lever. When it is desired to use either a magneto or a battery for normal running, the change-over switch 14 is inserted in the circuits. The magneto 11 is provided with its own condenser 13 and interrupter 12. The three positions of the change-over switch for placing the magneto in circuit, cutting-out both magneto and battery, and placing the battery in circuit, are shown respectively in Figs. 2<a>, 2<b>, and 2<c>,
