Abstract

4000. Mort, G. F., and New Engine (Motor) Co. Feb. 22. Springs; undercarriages.-In suspension arrangements for motor-cars, of the type in which one end of the spring is rigidly attached to the car frame and the other end is supported on the axle, means are provided for relieving the spring of the destructive effect of end-on impact and of the driving-stress, and for retaining the car body in its normal position in case of the fracture of one or more of the leaves of the spring. Each of the wheels is carried by a spring A, which is mounted in a box B fixed to the frame C and slides at its opposite end in a slipper F. A radius rod is arranged below the spring, being pivoted at one end D to the box B and at the other end to the axle E. According to the Provisional Specification, the brackets that carry the sliding slippers are rigidly attached to the radius rods, but are free to rotate on the axles.
